Detailed description of Harborside International Golf Center - Starboard

Harborside International Golf Center -Starboard, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Chicago, Illinois.

Harborside International Golf Center consists of two eighteen hole courses as well as The John Jacobs Golf Academy. The courses are The Port Course (opened in 1995) and The Starboard Course (opened in 1996). Both courses were designed by Richard P. Nugent.

Harborside International Golf Center started as a fourteen-year-old landfill that was "capped" with two feet of solid clay. Add two public courses to the 450-acre space, a clubhouse, a golf academy, a first-class practice facility, and the Chicago skyline and you end up with top rate golf. Both courses are links-style. There is water that comes into play and many very deep sand bunkers in keeping with the links tradition. Nine hole rates are available after 4 PM.

Stats on the two courses are almost idetical, yet most locals will say the Starboard course is the better of the two.

The Port course at the Harborside International Golf Center plays to a par-72 and 7,164 yards from the championship tees. The course rating is 75.1 and the slope rating is 136. The signature hole is #15 on the Port Course, a 216-yard, par 3, which is in the shape of an anchor.

TheStarboard course at the Harborside International Golf Center plays to a par-72 and 7,166 yards from the championship tees. The course rating is 75.2 and the slope rating is 137. The Starboard has two par 3 holes in which you hit over water.

Definitely a challenging course combining the layout and wind factor. Hills and shrubs play with your depth perception if you're not used to hilly layouts. I wouldn't want to play this course at sunrise because the sun hitting the water will blind you. Placement from the tee box is key for a successful round here. So if you think you can just crush the ball, you'll be humbled really fast. I wouldn't recommend this course for a beginner, they'd probably quit the game. Pace of play was not a factor when we played since it was after working hours and on a weeknight. Hardly any golfers around. Tricky to get to...Iphone navigation and Mapquest got it wrong after exiting at 111th Street so be careful. If it tells you to turn on Doty Avenue and you see the US Bank building, you're on the wrong side of I-94. I-94 cuts Doty Avenue and GPS tells you the wrong direction. Go back across the bridge and down the ramp for I-94 and you'll see a street before getting on I-94. Ate a brat at the turn and it was good. Pricy but good. Brat, chips and a Lime A Rita was $10.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

First rate practice facility. Golf experience similar to BlackWolf Run but at a fraction of the cost. Nice proshop & Bar restaraunt. Course is long with 4 sets of tees. Links style. Lots of sand and long fescue. Wind always a factor.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area
